To anyone here who's had a potentially illegal background check run on them by an employer, been denied employment in whole or in part based on the results of said background check, or been denied a copy of their background check (even after it's been used against them by an employer), I want to help you in any way I can, because I am sick and tired of these mega-multi-billion-dollar corporations with their armies of attorneys and bottomless bank accounts violating the average worker's rights.

If you don't know who I am, I am NOT an attorney (but can probably steer you in the direction of one, if you need one). My name is Cory Groshek and in only 18 months, between late 2014 and early 2016, I earned nearly a quarter of a million dollars through private settlements (without an attorney) with employers who willfully violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and then used some of that money to publish a children's book (as my way of "giving back" to the world).

I currently have three FCRA-related Federal Lawsuits pending against three different employers (one being telecom giant Time Warner Cable) for running illegal background checks on me, two of which are currently on appeal with the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago (and as it stands right now, it looks like I'm going to win all three). If you need my help, I'm not hard to find.

Wtf! Seriously! Fix your credit before you get a job? Your credit literally has nothing to do with your work performance! Besides, how in the hell are you gonna fix your credit if you can't a job. because you have bad credit in the first. Should a person really be left out of a job for the rest of their life because they have bad credit? Anything could of happened to them. Living beyond your means, and can afford it. Are both different reasons. But what if they lost their job, injury, homeless, etc

  7. jopimp14 says:

This shit gotta stop! A background check for employment. Should only check for criminal record, employment verification, education, and references. Nothing else! A person's work should speak for itself. Any more checking than that. Should really depend on the job you're applying for. And they should only be allowed to go back the last 3 years. For all searches

Don't forget illegal background checks. Where the background check company can only go back so many years in your state. But yet go further than that. Example , California it's no more than 7 years for a background check. But some people have told me, that when they applied to be a stocking position employee. The company went back 15 years, in all areas of the background check. Even though in California it's only 7 years legally for a background check

At least she told us all the truth and up front. So is it worth looking for a job? Or fuck it! THUG LIFE!?

Background checks tell u nothing but a person's past, they tell u nothing about a person's future. As for Sex offenses, people with no history of sex offenses are committing sex crimes on a daily basis. People who passed backgrounds and own guns legally are committing mass shootings. The re purpose of background checks is to relieve employers of certain liabilities.

I know this is a Old Video nevertheless still very relevant in 2019
I understand that Employers want to avoid any Possible Problems with hiring Criminals.
But what about those of us that have been good for 10+ years that have changed ?? I'll tell you we get skipped because Everything is Online there's no personal interaction.
So they look at my past and not at me they don't see my honesty or my kindness they just see my Criminal Records and say this guy has Possession of Marijuana with intent to Distribute. Which was Not true it was personal use.
They see Assault which was Falsely Accused.
Yes I plead Guilty because I didn't want to stay in prison another 3 months to go to Trial. I was young and had a life.
Now I'm in my late 30's and can NOT get a Job because of that BS.
